Games, Tattoos, Food, And Selfies At Relay For Life Of Olmsted County
Dream Big. Hope Big. Relay Big.
Last Friday, the Townsquare Media crew helped #paintyourworldpurple at Relay for Life of Olmsted County. If you missed the event, well, we took a lot of selfies!
Some of the best moments for all of us at Townsquare Media were the Minute to Win It Games, the tattoos, the survivor walk, and also hearing some inspiring words of courage and strength from Kelly Ihrke.
Kelly was this year's Relay for Life Honorary Chair. When she was in high school, her mom passed away after an 8-month battle with cancer. In 1999, her dad was diagnosed with lung cancer and although the odds were against him, he won. In 2018, Kelly was diagnosed with cancer and started her fight.
As Kelly was up on stage sharing her story, behind her were those who helped her play a part in her fight against cancer. In the program, Kelly shares these words,
"WE beat this. It wasn't only me. My family played a huge part in this fight. They were there for me the entire time. This journey takes a toll on each one of us but together we can get through anything! We have all come out of this journey as different people. We are doing better at not sweating the small stuff and so enjoy our time together making memories."
When the word "cancer" is spoken, that individual needs a community. So thankful to all who showed up and were there as a community at Relay for Life of Olmsted County. And thank you for letting Townsquare Media be part of that community again this year!
