Thousands of Pigs Perish in Southeast Minnesota Hog Barn Fire
Brownsdale, MN (KROC-AM News)- Thousands of pigs perished in a fire that destroyed a southeast Minnesota hog barn.

The Brownsdale Volunteer Fire Department says the barn was fully engulfed by the flames when firefighters arrived.
Fire crews had to haul water out to the rural Mower County property. They also paged other emergency responders for mutual aid.
Hog Barn Fire in Rural Brownsdale, MN Kills Thousands of Pigs
The fire broke out shortly before midnight on Tuesday at a property in the 25000 block of 570th Ave in rural Brownsdale. Officials say the flames had swallowed up the 102 by 148 foot structure.
4,000 pigs were inside of the barn at the time of the fire. Brownsdale firefighters say all of the pigs were killed in the blaze.
The barn was deemed a total loss and the property owner was not able to immediately provide a damage estimate, a post on the Brownsdale Fire Department’s Facebook page says.
No injuries were reported and firefighters remained at the scene until almost 5 a.m. Wednesday.
The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation. The Austin Fire Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance also responded to the hog barn fire.
