Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Summer break is over for students in Rochester Public Schools and other districts in the area.

Classes begin Monday for the 2018-2019 school year and several Rochester schools are bulging as enrollment is expected to set a record this year.

As of Friday, RPS had an enrollment total of 18,203. That’s nearly 300 more than last year’s official headcount. The new official total will be reported in October.

Because of the growth in the last few years, RPS is considering attendance boundary changes that would take effect next year. Also being considered is a possible referendum to fund a new elementary and middle school. RPS says six schools in the northwest part of the district are significantly over capacity.
