Coon Rapids, MN (KROC-AM News) - There was a fatal officer-involved shooting in a Twin Cities suburb this afternoon.

The Coon Rapids Police Department says officers responded to a domestic incident around noon after receiving a report about an adult male with a knife inside a home. A news release says the 911 caller, identified as an adult female, stated that she had been cut with a knife.

Police Say the Suspect Was Shot After Multiple Attempts to Subdue Him With Less-Lethal Rounds

The statement indicates multiple officers responded to the residence and made contact with the suspect. While attempting to de-escalate the situation, the officers reported hearing a female screaming before she exited the home with another adult male. The woman was transported by ambulance for treatment, while the man was not injured.

Coon Rapids Police say the suspect, who was holding a knife, refused to leave the house and ignored repeated commands to drop the weapon. An officer then attempted to subdue him by discharging a 40 mm "less-lethal" round. The news release states the man retreated further into the home, and a second officer made another attempt to subdue him using a "less-lethal" round.

It is reported that when the suspect moved toward police, a third officer shot him. The news release says he was then shocked with a Taser by another officer when he attempted to get up.

The police department's statement says the officers immediately began administering medical aid before the wounded suspect was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His name has not been released.

Coon Rapids Police say the incident was recorded by the officers’ body cameras. They are currently on standard administrative leave.
