Minnesota Lottery Shock: Mega Millions Price More Than Doubles!

Minnesota has several lotto games to participate in all year round, and one of them is about to undergo a huge makeover, including a huge price increase.

The Minnesota State Lottery makes several national lotto games available in the state, including popular games like Powerball, Lotto America and Mega Millions, these give players a shot at monstrous jackpots that can reach into the billions.

"Mega" Changes Coming to Popular Lotto Game

Mega Millions has had six jackpot wins over $1 billion, and with "mega" changes coming next year, that number should increase with the upcoming changes to the game.

Mega Millions says the changes will improve the odds of winning the jackpot, create bigger jackpots more often, and have larger starting, and faster growing jackpots.

They will also start offering a multiplier that can improve non-jackpot wins by up to 10x, meaning that matching five white balls could land you a $10 million pay day.

Changes Include Huge Price Increase

Mega Millions is also doing away with "breakeven prizes", starting in April 2025, any ticket that wins will have a prize amount more than the cost of the ticket.

To accomplish these goals, Mega Millions will need to increase the price to play the game, when these changes start next year the price to play will go from $2 to $5.

Mega Millions says this is the second time in more than 20 years that they've raised the price to play, the last time was in 2017 when the price went from $1 to $2.

Currently, Mega Millions is available in 45 states, and on average they claim that "3 millionaires per week" are made playing the game.
