A Deadly Stretch: 9 Lives Lost on Minnesota Roads in 3 Day Span

Friday through Sunday, authorities across the state reported nine lives were lost in six traffic incidents. Two of the victims were pedestrians.

The run of tragedies began Friday morning in northwest Minnesota. Valley News Live reports two people were killed after the vehicle they were in struck a tree in Mahnomen County.

The second deadly crash was a rollover that occurred on Hwy. 52 in Pine Island. 85-year-old Roger Iverson of Red Wing died at the scene of the crash and his passenger, identified as 78-year-old Carol Anne Iverson of Red Wing, was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester with life-threatening injuries.

St. Paul Police said a male pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle at an intersection on the city’s east side Friday evening. Authorities say he was pronounced dead at the scene and that the driver, who was unharmed, is cooperating with the investigation.

Friday’s fourth fatality happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Hwy. 169 in the Twin Cities. The State Patrol says a 41-year-old Minneapolis man laying on the highway near Champlin died at the scene after he was hit by a northbound vehicle.

Around 3:30 Sunday Morning, Duluth Police responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash near the Spirit Mountain ski area where a 26-year-old man was killed. He was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Multiple lives were lost later Sunday morning in Northern Minnesota’s Koochiching County where a head-on collision killed three men in their 20’s. Two other passengers in that crash, also men in their 20’s, suffered life-threatening injuries.
