Drug-Related Medical Call Leads to Break in Stewartville Theft Case

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Two Byron residents are facing felony charges after authorities allegedly found drugs, weapons and stolen property in their home when they responded to a 911 call in March.

The criminal complaint filed in Olmsted County Court Friday charges 25-year-old Jazmyn Lacina and 34-year-old Edwin Stevens with seven counts each of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance. Lacina and Stevens are also each facing a charge for possessing a firearm and ammunition while using a controlled substance.  

The charges indicate an Olmsted County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a residence in Rock Dell Township on the report of a person having a bad reaction to drugs around 7 a.m. on March 12. The responding deputy was let into the house by Lacina and found Stevens lying face-down on a mattress, sweating profusely while he was on the phone with his mother. 

Mayo Clinic Ambulance responded to the residence and began treating Stevens who had used methamphetamine, heroine, and mushrooms, according to the complaint. The deputy also saw tools that appeared to match the description of equipment reported stolen from a Stewartville construction site. 

The deputy photographed the tools and law enforcement left the home before returning after learning Lacina had an active arrest warrant in Chisago County. Lacina informed deputies she had money to cover the cost of bail in a gun safe located in the bedroom of the residence.

She warned authorities that there were drugs in plain view in the bedroom and deputies reported seeing drugs and drug paraphernalia and other items. Law enforcement then arrested Lacina after she told them there may be firearms and drugs in the safe with the cash. The complaint details the suspected drug-related items found in the bedroom.   

Investigators learned the tools found at the home were taken from a hospital that Stevens had worked at as a subcontractor. Stevens denied stealing tools and equipment that included a trailer worth over $7,000, the complaint states. The complaint details the items believed to have been stolen: 

Stevens is also facing a charge for receiving stolen property. Deputies also reported recovering 10 firearms and two baggies containing ammunition.  Stevens and Lacina have been summoned to appear in Olmsted County Court on October 26.
