First responders rushed to the scene of the deadly fire shortly after 1:15 p.m. on Sunday. The emergency personnel who first arrived at the home reported thick smoke coming from the inside of the structure.

A news release issued Monday morning by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says the fire broke out at a rural residence about 3 miles outside of Ely.
