Cottage Grove, MN (KROC-AM News)- The driver of a convertible lost her life after running a red light in a crash at a Minnesota intersection.

That’s according to the State Patrol. The two vehicle-crash was one of at least three fatalities reported across the state on Tuesday. 

First responders were dispatched to the crash, which was captured on video (warning: disturbing content) around 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of Highways 61 and 95 in southern Cottage Grove. 


The state crash report indicates the convertible, driven by 87-year-old Hazel Mitchell Johnson, turned against a red light from northbound Hwy. 61. 

A southbound pick-up then struck the Hasting woman’s vehicle in the intersection.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash report indicates she was not buckled up.

37-year-old Jared William Bickner of Hastings was driving the pick-up. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of what are being described as non-life-threatening injuries. 

Authorities say alcohol was not involved in the deadly crash.
