Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The former Mayo Clinic physician accused of murdering his wife has been ordered to surrender his passport if he manages to post his conditional bail, which remains set at $2 million.

The additional condition was added during a brief court hearing this morning for 30-year-old Connor Bowman. He is due back in Olmsted County Court for another procedural hearing in January.

Bowman was charged last week with a single count of second-degree murder in connection with the death of 32-year-old Betty Bowman on August 20. It is alleged that he poisoned his wife, possibly using a high dose of a drug used to treat gout.

The criminal complaint alleges Bowman initiated a number of Internet searches through a network connection at the University of Kansas, where he had served as a Poison Specialist. Those searches involved the gout medication and the amount needed for a lethal dose in a person matching his wife's weight. The court document also lists online activity related to purchases of the drug.

According to the charges, that evidence, along with evidence concerning a life insurance policy on his wife taken out by Bowman, and significant debts owed by Bowman, was bolstered by the results of blood and urine tests that detected the medication in samples taken from Betty Bowman during her hospitalization and after her death.

A GoFundMe page has been established to assist Betty Bowman's family in dealing with expenses associated with participating in the legal proceedings involving her murder and other related expenses. There is speculation that Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem is considering convening the grand jury to consider first-degree murder charges against Bowman.
