MN & Wisconsin Firefighters Battled Large Grassfire Near Wabasha
(UPDATE) -As of Saturday evening, the fire was largely extinguished and Wabasha County Road 84 was reopened.
Wabasha, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Wabasha County Sheriff's Office has canceled an evacuation order but is still advising residents impacted by a large wildfire to use their best judgment and be prepared to evacuate if needed.
The large grass fire was reported earlier Saturday afternoon in an area south of Kellogg. The latest reports indicated Wabasha County Road 84 was closed because of the blaze.
The Sheriff's Office says no one is being allowed in the area due to thick smoke and medical traffic. Officials say the roadways also need to be kept clear to accommodate firefighting crews from other Minnesota agencies and western Wisconsin.
The now canceled evacuation order was for the West Newton area several miles southeast of Kellogg near Weaver.
