New Charges Filed in Rochester Area ATM Burglary Spree
Byron, MN (KROC-AM News) - Additional charges have been filed against a Pine Island man accused of a string of ATM burglaries in the Rochester area earlier this year.
The original criminal complaint filed against 47-year-old Jason Daniel Krukow charged him with causing about $1,500 in damage to an ATM at a southeast Rochester restaurant on March 5, and with a break-in at a northwest Rochester business that caused an estimated $70,000 in damage.
In that case, Krukow is accused of driving a stolen van through a large garage door to elude a Rochester police officer who had responded to an alarm at the business and spotted an intruder inside. The criminal complaint also alleges that he was responsible for several other break-ins in March and April at multiple Rochester businesses.
Court documents indicate Krukow was identified as a suspect after the owner of the southeast Rochester restaurant posted a photo of a pickup truck seen in the business's parking lot on social media and received a response from someone who recognized it and directed investigators to Krukow’s residence.

The new criminal complaint, filed in Olmsted County Court on Thursday, charges Krukow with the attempted theft of an ATM from a bank in Byron. It states that an Olmsted County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the business in the early morning of April 7 and found a damaged ATM lying on the ground. The officer reported that the interior of the ATM was exposed but still secured. The damage was estimated at more than $15,000.
Krukow is now also formally charged with a break-in at Byron High School the same morning. The court document says responding deputies determined someone had broken into the building and that a smoke bomb or similar device had been thrown inside. It was also discovered that "road tacks," meant to deflate tires, had been scattered near the entrance to the school’s parking lot. The criminal complaint says the damage to the high school was estimated at around $1,300.
The new criminal complaint also charges Krukow with the theft of a pickup from a Byron business. The owner told investigators the truck had been driven through a fence. It was later found about half a mile away, and diesel fuel had been poured over the vehicle. The charges say a review of surveillance camera videos from the bank in Byron determined that the stolen truck had been used in the attempted theft of the ATM. The damage to the pickup was estimated at around $4,400.

In addition to the charges previously filed against Krukow in the Rochester cases, he now also faces three counts of first-degree damage to property and a felony vehicle theft charge.
His bail is now set at $500,000.
