Plea Deal For Accused Rochester Catalytic Converter Thief
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has entered into a plea agreement with Olmsted County prosecutors to settle five criminal cases, including one involving the theft of a catalytic converter.
42-year-old Bryce Suess entered guilty pleas to a felony count of receiving stolen property, a gross misdemeanor drug charge, and a misdemeanor domestic assault charge. In exchange, felony counts of criminal damage to property and illegal possession of a gun and/or ammunition were dismissed, along with a charge of possession of burglary or theft tools.
In the catalytic converter theft case, Suess was charged last August with stealing one of the emissions control devices from a pickup truck at a business near Stewartville. The criminal complaint says a video recorded by a surveillance camera showed a pickup associated with Suess park near the business and then a man matching Suess's description exits the vehicle carrying what appears to be a cordless saw. The same video shows Suess walking back to the pickup holding a cut-off catalytic converter and the saw.
The court document says another video recording shows the former Grand Meadow man attempting to sell a catalytic converter at Watson Recycling. The Rochester area business told an investigator that Suess and his pickup had been listed on a company watchlist warning employees to be suspicious of anything Suess might bring in to sell.
The court ordered a presentence investigation and scheduled Suess's sentencing hearing for the afternoon of March 20.
