Edina, MN (KROC-AM News)- Police are investigating a threatening email that was sent to a Minnesota teacher. 

The educator reported receiving the email Saturday morning. The email was forwarded to the school principal, who immediately contacted police. 

A news release issued by the Edina Police Department says they were made aware of the email shortly after 9 a.m. Officers then responded to the Edina High School, evacuated the building and closed its parking lots.

Police and K9’s searched the buildings and grounds for about two hours and deemed the property safe shortly before 11:30 a.m., the news release says.

Officials say there does appear to be any threat to the public’s safety. Officers spent the rest of the day conducting extra patrols at the property.

The news release also says staff at several other schools in the Twin Cities area reported receiving a similar email. The email is described by law enforcement as a “terroristic threat.” 

The specific nature of the threat has not been released. The schools and the other staff members who received a similar email have not been disclosed. 

The threats are being investigated by the Edina Police Department and other agencies.
