Pursuit Ends in Tragedy: Fleeing Motorist Kills One in St. Paul
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The State Patrol is reporting that one person was killed by a motorist who was fleeing from a State Trooper in St. Paul late last night.
A statement from the State Patrol indicates the pursuit began around 11:15 PM when a trooper initiated a traffic stop for speeding. The report says the speeding motorist initially stopped, but then sped away.
At some point, the State Trooper and other law officers involved in the chase discontinued the pursuit, but a State Patrol helicopter was able to track the fleeing vehicle.
Moments later, the driver apparently lost control and his vehicle crashed into a parked car in a parking lot. The person in that vehicle was killed in the collision. The name of the victim has not been released.
The State Patrol says the fleeing motorist attempted to run away from the site of the crash but was apprehended nearby after a Taser was used to subdue him. His name has also not been released, but the State Patrol indicated he is a 28-year-old man from Minneapolis.
