Rochester’s DMC Board Backs $85.6M for City Improvements
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Destination Medical Center Corporation Board met Thursday and approved an $85.6 million capital improvement plan for the next two years.
A news release indicates nearly half of that total is being directed toward infrastructure and other amenities associated with Mayo Clinic's Bold. Forward. Unbound. expansion project. The DMC Corporation says the $38.4 million investment will “ensure that the streets, sidewalks, and shared spaces are vibrant, healthy, and welcoming for all.”
Nearly Half of Funds Directed to Mayo Clinic Expansion
“I appreciate the intentionality around strategic access to the Mayo Campus and the downtown area with the clear intention that it will also result in an enhanced visitor and resident experience,” said DMCC Chair Wheelock. “This is an example of how unique this partnership is. This is a big, big investment—changing the face of the neighborhoods and improving the antiquated infrastructure in the area. This is a milestone proposal.”
$38.4 Million Is Second-Largest DMC Project Approved
DMC Economic Development Executive Director Patrick Seeb noted the $38.4 million investment is the second largest approved for a single project since the inception of the Destination Medical Center initiative 10 years ago. The largest single investment is the LINK Bus Rapid Transit system.
According to the DMC news release, the two-year capital investment program includes additional appropriations for the transit system and the 6th Street Bridge project. Funds were also approved for the Riverfront improvement project near the Government Center and Mayo Civic Center, along with road and safety improvements and additional signage in the downtown area.
