Rochester Enacts Downtown Parking Restrictions Before Snow Storm

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The City of Rochester is enacting parking restrictions ahead of another winter storm that’s expected to bring heavy snow to southeast Minnesota.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that begins at noon on Thursday and is scheduled to expire at 6 a.m. Friday. Rochester city officials announced parking restrictions to facilitate snow removal in the downtown business district.

The restrictions will be in place between midnight and 8 a.m. starting Friday, March 10 through Tuesday March 14. Officials say that vehicles that violate the parking restrictions during the no-parking time period will be ticketed and towed.

Anyone missing a vehicle that’s parked in the downtown area is asked to contact the Olmsted County Law Enforcement Center. The restrictions are in effect in the following areas:

3rd Ave. West from 3rd St. NW to 6th St. SW (one way northbound)
4th Ave. West from 3rd St. NW to 5th St. SW (one way southbound)
4th St. South from 2nd Ave. SE to 6th Ave. SW
1st Ave. West from 5th St. NW south to End of Street by “YMCA"
2nd Ave. SW from 3rd St. SW to 6th St. SW
2nd Ave SW from Center Street to the round-a-bout
7th St SW from 5th Ave SW to 6th St. SW
5th St. SW from 1st Ave. SW to 4th Ave. SW
6th St. SW from 1st Ave. SW to 2nd Ave. SW
Broadway from 2nd St. South to 6th St. South
Center St. from 7th Ave. West to 3rd Ave West
1st St. NE from Broadway to dead end east of Civic Center Dr. NE

Better Names Than "Olive" For Minnesota's Epic Winter Storm

February 22nd and 23rd in 2023 are dates to remember as the time Mother Nature got ticked off at Minnesota. I'm not sure what we did but kids were out of school for days, roads closed, driveways drifted over, and the mad rush to grab last-minute items were the norm.

The name for the storm given by the National Weather Service was "Olive". I thought that name was a bit lame for a storm as massive as we saw so I asked around to see if anyone had a better idea for a name. And boy, they did!
