Rochester Man Jailed After Police Chase with Child Inside Vehicle

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has been ordered to spend about two weeks in jail for leading Rochester Police on a chase with a small child in his vehicle.

According to court records, 22-year-old Daniel Lamont Burton was arrested on the morning of October 31 last year after a Rochester Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on North Broadway. The criminal complaint indicates the officer had determined the driver of the vehicle was wanted on an active arrest warrant.

The charges alleged that Burton initially pulled over, but then sped away after the officer informed him that he was under arrest and ordered him out of the vehicle. The court document says Rochester police witnessed Burton drive through a red light at the intersection of North Broadway and 7th Street and speed through traffic at a high rate of speed.

The criminal complaint says Burton was later arrested at his Rochester residence.

He was charged with a felony count of fleeing police, along with misdemeanor counts of reckless driving and driving after revocation. Burton earlier entered a guilty plea to the felony fleeing police charge in Olmsted County Court.

His sentence calls for a 90 day jail sentence, but grants him credit for 77 days already served in jail. He has also been placed on probation for five years.
