Spring Valley Schools Locked Down During Shotgun Incident

Spring Valley, MN (KROC-AM News) - A shelter-in-place order was issued this afternoon for a residential area in Spring Valley due to a disturbance involving a gun.

The Fillmore County Sheriff's Office says Kingsland Public Schools were also placed on lockdown as a precaution because of the incident, which was reported around 1:15 p.m. along Fairview Street, approximately 1000 feet away from the school property.

911 Call Reported Man With Shotgun

Fillmore County Sheriff John DeGeorge says the initial call was for a disturbance and was followed by a second 911 call reporting that a man was outside a residence with a shotgun.

Fillmore County deputies responded to the scene and established a perimeter while making phone contact with the armed subject.

Lockdown and Shelter-in-Place Order Lifted

About an hour later, the sheriff said the subject was safely taken into custody by Fillmore County deputies, and the lockdown and shelter-in-place advisories were lifted.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Multiple Agencies Assist With Response

The Fillmore County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Preston Police Department, the Minnesota State Patrol, a Minnesota conservation officer and the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.
