(UPDATE) A stand-off in Cannon Falls came to an end shortly after 5 PM Wednesday when a man suspected of shooting a woman earlier in the day was found dead inside a home. His name has not been released. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Cannon Falls, MN (KROC-AM News) - A "shelter in place" warning has been issued for a portion of Cannon Falls this afternoon because of a standoff.

The Cannon Falls Police Department says it is asking the public to avoid the area of the 300 block of First Street North in Cannon Falls. The advisory was issued after officers responded to a 911 call around 11:30 AM from a woman who reported she had been shot at.

According to a statement from the police department, the officers located a 26-year-old woman who had been shot. After she was moved to a safe area, the woman was transported by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.

A perimeter was then established around a residence where a 25-year-old man is believed to be located. An Emergency Response Team was sent to assist Cannon Falls Police, which is also receiving assistance from the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office, the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, and the State Patrol.

At this point, officials say they do not believe there is a threat to the general public.
