Burnsville, MN (KROC-AM News) - It appears the late winter storm that hit Minnesota on Sunday is blamed for at least one death.

The State Patrol says I-35 in Burnsville was snow and ice covered when an SUV ran off the road and crashed into a tree. The deadly collision was reported around 12:15 PM on Sunday.

The State Patrol's preliminary report on the incident says 51-year-old Elizabeth Marie Evans of Lakeville was driving north on the freeway near the interchange with Dakota County Road 42. Following the crash, she was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul where she was pronounced dead.

The State Patrol says she was wearing her seatbelt.

Since midnight on Sunday through 4: 30 Sunday afternoon, the State Patrol responded to 217 traffic crashes. In addition to the fatal crash in Burnsville, there was one other serious injury crash. The State Patrol also reported 116 incidents involving vehicles spinning out or off the road and 5 jackknifed semi trucks.
