Rochester Man With 3 Violent Crime Convictions in Iowa Accused of Attempted Straw Firearm Purchase
29-year-old Yasin Nasir Muhidin is charged with a count of attempted purchase of a firearm as a person convicted of a violent crime and possession of ammo/firearm as a person convicted of a violent crime.
The court document alleges Muhidin and a woman, who is named in the complaint but not charged as of Tuesday morning, attempted the purchase on September 4 at Coyote Creek Outdoors.
Rochester police responded to the store and learned the woman told staff she was there to purchase a firearm but could not describe the weapon and referred to Muhidin, who had gathered ammunition and inquired about ammunition available in the store, the complaint says.

An employee, who suspected the firearm purchase was actually for Muhidin, asked to see Muhidin's identification.
The charges say Muhidin became upset and refused to show his ID. The store then refused to make the sale.
Investigators identified Muhidin and the woman by cross referencing store camera footage with body-worn camera footage captured during previous interactions with Muhidin and the woman.
Court records indicate Muhidin has prior convictions of involuntary manslaughter, trafficking in stolen weapons and sexual abuse in the second degree in Iowa.
He was released without bail following his first court appearance on Monday and is due back in court later this month.
