Body Found in Burnt Car Near Byron Identified as Missing Rochester Man
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities say the body found in a burnt vehicle near Byron late last year has been identified as a missing Rochester man.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a burnt car in the 8000 block of Country Club Rd. West in rural Byron on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve.
Upon arrival deputies found a body inside of the burned up car. The preliminary investigation indicated the car was registered to a Rochester man who was reported missing in early December.
Authorities were not able to immediately identify the body and ordered an autopsy. The burnt car was believed to have been in the area for some time.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said Thursday that the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office identified the body found in the car as 76-year-old Uong Ong.
Ong was reported missing to the Rochester Police Department on Dec. 3. His family reported that he left home without his diabetes medication and was believed to have been without the medication for several days.
The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says the circumstances surrounding the apparent car fire are under investigation.
