Pepin, WI (KROC-AM News) - The victims of the weekend boating tragedy on Lake Pepin have been recovered.

Boating Crash Victims Found

A joint news release issued by the Wabasha County Sheriff's Office and the Pepin County, Wisconsin, Sheriff's Office says the bodies of three people were recovered from the lake on Sunday. The bodies of the victims have been transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the exact cause of death.

The names of the victims have not been released.

Pontoon Boat Found Capsized In Lake

The news release indicates the three victims were among the six people who were aboard a 27-foot pontoon boat that was found capsized just offshore from the YMCA Camp on Deer Island near Pepin, Wisconsin, late Saturday night. The Pepin County Sheriff's Office reported receiving a 911 call at 10:45 p.m. about people screaming for help on the lake.

3 Survivors

When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found three survivors clinging to the capsized boat. The survivors reported that three other occupants of the pontoon boat were missing.

Massive Search Effort

That prompted a massive search and rescue operation involving multiple law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and other emergency responders. Search crews used drones, helicopters, and other resources during the operation.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is the lead agency investigating the deadly incident, which reportedly involved a collision with a commercial barge.
