Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Malida Olson said a neighbor reported finding a house she shares a driveway with had suffered significant structure damage when she returned to her residence around 4 p.m. Deputies along with members of the Dover-Eyota Fire Department then responded to the residence in the 14,000 block of County Rd. 142 southeast.

Olson said a neighboring home had a surveillance camera. She said investigators reviewed the footage, which showed an explosion and fireball burst from the north side of the house around 8 a.m.

Officials say the explosion appeared to have smothered any fire inside of the home. The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to investigate, however local fire crews suspect the explosion was caused by the home's LP water heater.

Olson said a damage estimate is not yet available, however the home’s basement and part of its main floor are likely uninhabitable due to structural damage caused by the explosion. The resident, described as a 42-year-old man, was not home at the time of the explosion.

No injuries were reported. Olson said Wednesday morning that the explosion remains under investigation.
