Rochester Man Accused of Brandishing Gun During Dispute at Apartment Enters Guilty Plea
Rochester, MN (RochesterNow)- The Olmsted County Attorney’s Office and a man accused of brandishing a gun during a dispute at a Rochester apartment have reached a plea deal.

Rochester Police were dispatched to the northwest Rochester apartment on the report of a fight and a man threatening people with a gun in July of 2023.
Dispatchers reported hearing yelling in the background during the emergency call.
Plea Agreement for Rochester Man Accused of Brandishing Gun During Dispute at Apartment
Upon arrival officers, who had a description of the alleged armed suspect, spotted and detained Jarell Eric Long.
The Rochester man told police that he had a gun in a safe and that he was there to help one of the apartment tenants remove a woman from their unit who was staying there, the complaint says.
Police went to the apartment where the fight was reported and had to separate two people who were arguing.
A man who lives at the unit with his sister and her children told police he asked Long and another person to come remove the woman he was seen arguing with after the man’s sister told him she wanted the woman to leave, the charges say.

Long withdrew a gun from his waistband and threatened to shoot everyone in the apartment after an argument broke out following his arrival, the complaint says. Long left the unit and went to his vehicle after the call to law enforcement was placed.
Officers found a handgun in Long’s vehicle. Long told police the gun was his but said he did not use it in the way it was described to police, according to the charges.
Plea Agreement Terms
Long was charged with two counts of felony second-degree assault and two counts of felony terroristic threats.
Earlier this week the 38-year-old entered a plea agreement admitting to one of the terroristic threats counts in exchange for the dismissal of the other charges.
The agreement calls for a stayed prison sentence and no jail time. Long is scheduled to be sentenced in December.
