If you build it, they will come. And vote.

We're tired of politics at this point but there's a great race that needs your input! Have you ever wondered what you would name a baseball team if you had this chance? You kinda do now.

A permanent resident baseball team is coming to play in Dyersville's iconic Field of Dreams.

It's part of the Northwoods League, which is the largest organized collegiate baseball league with 26 teams. Nearly 2,400 alumni have been drafted and over 410 have made it to Major League Baseball.

Vote: The Team Name Finalists

So obviously the team name should be very tied to Iowa or the Field of Dreams. Here are the 5 finalists you can vote for.

Dyersville Corn Dogs- a nod to the corn fields surrounding the baseball diamond

Dyersville Dreamers- Duh. Here's how the league explained it:

The name “Dreamers” captures both the spirit of the iconic Field of Dreams site and the broader identity of baseball itself.  Field of Dreams is built on the idea that belief, nostalgia, and imagination can bring something extraordinary to life.   The word “Dreamers” reflects that legacy, honoring the famous line, “If you build it, he will come,” while inviting a new generation of players and fans to believe in possibility and community.

Dyersville Ghosts- tribute to the 'ghost players' that come out of the corn in the movie (my personal second favorite to 'Corn Dogs')

Dyersville Moonlighters- tribute to Moonlight Graham in the movie

Dyersville Spirits- in the same vein as ghosts, it's a tribute to the spirits of former Black Sox players and MLB players.

You can vote for your favorite team name on the Northwoods League's website.

The team name will be announced during the league's all-star festivities July 7-8.

top 10 best movies about football

Football movies work because the game is a perfect pressure cooker for drama. They’re about ego, community, and those "get up off the dirt" moments we all wish we had in real life.
