Welcome to the year 2024, where we still somehow have a wage gap.

Any woman in the workforce will tell you that we don't make as much money as our male coworkers. It's a tale as old as time and somehow in this world of gender equality, it's still an issue.

Card Rates looked at how bad the wage gap is and in Iowa, it's not looking that promising. The study looked at "major life purchases", which includes college tuition, cars, and houses.

Guys In Iowa Can Buy Nice Things Faster

I could explain how long it takes to save stuff for men vs. women but look at the stats. It can take women months or years longer to save up to buy a house or a car than it does a man to save the same amount of money.

Where Iowa Stands

According to data from the U.S. Census, men in Iowa can make major life purchases 27.8% faster than women in the state. It's definitely one of the chunkier wage gaps in the Midwest.

Unfortunately, the stats don't get better. Card Rates also found that women in Iowa make 72.2% of what men make. That is over a $14,000 difference, based on median income numbers. Compared to the rest of the U.S., that's not that bad. The best state women make close to what men make is Vermont, where women earn 83% of what men do.

The research ultimately shows that the gender pay disparity hasn't changed much in the last two decades, resulting in men being able to make big purchases sooner than women.
