Minnesota Restaurant Faces Backlash After Rule Aimed at Parents Goes Viral
Rules are created to keep people safe and also to make an environment enjoyable for all. But sometimes, people think some rules can take it too far. One restaurant in southeast Minnesota is facing backlash for just that.

People are very divided over a rule that recently went viral. It's not a new rule but it's one that took the internet by storm earlier this month because of a recent one-star review.
Red Wing, MN Restaurant Under Fire for Rule
The restaurant is Bayside Saloon in Red Wing. Earlier this month, they received a one-star review from someone, seemingly due to this particular rule.
I don't think I found the original review (I checked Facebook and Google reviews) but in my hunt, I found plenty of other reviews commenting on the rule that was referenced.
The rule is only for parents who bring their kids to the restaurant and it states that adults with kids are limited to a 2-drink maximum.
The person who wrote the original one-star review was apparently upset about this and made it known! The owner of Bayside Saloon decided to hit back by sharing the story on Facebook and addressing the 2-drink rule.
It turns out that the rule struck a chord with people. Some people were all for it but many others were very against it. The owner eventually took the post down and he told The Daily Mail, '"It was getting out of control ... We never thought in a million years it would go viral.'"
Below is a screenshot of the post that has been removed.
People Get Fired Up Over Restaurant's 2-Drink Maximum Rule
Bayside Saloon's owner says that the rule has been in place for 25 years, so it's not new, but it's definitely news to some.
Even after the post was removed, reviews kept coming in on Facebook, some for and some against the restaurant, all referencing this rule.
One says, "If you’re responsible for a child and you choose to bring that child with you *to a bar*, you should not be in a situation where you are impaired. The management realizes this and thus has a very reasonable policy."
One comment on the original Facebook post, according to Gray News, said "'Thank you for standing up for the kids! They deserve better than drunk irresponsible parents!'"
I absolutely agree that if you're out with your kids and are responsible for them, then you have to be responsible yourself and it's smart to limit yourself to 2 drinks, if any.
But then on the other side of the coin, you've got reviews like this one that says, "People need to mind their own business.. do not come here if you make to make adult decisions and decide what is best for you not them!"
A comment on the original post, according to ESPN Sioux Falls, says, "'I think the fix is to let adults make adult decisions and if you believe that they are breaking the law in the process, call law enforcement and let them do their job.'"
Another allegedly said, '"What if both parents are there? If one is not drinking what is the problem?"'
There's a huge divide here, and I understand both sides of the argument, especially the one about if both parents are present and one is the designated driver.
It's a tough situation, but there are also some people being really nasty. Regardless of what you think about this rule, remember to be kind. I highly doubt this rule was made with any malice, so don't start being a bully online about it.
