Minnesota’s Favorite Donut Announced Ahead of National Donut Day

Wednesday, November 5th is National Donut Day! It's the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a donut (maybe along with a coffee), and there are probably places around town that will be doing specials in celebration.

Almost any donut is delicious (although I'm personally not a fan of the filled donuts), but if you had to pick only one as your favorite, what would you decide?

A recent study based on Google search trends reveals the most popular donut by state. But before we get to that, what are the most popular types of donuts across the US?

The Most Popular Types of Donuts in the US

The study was done by a website called Yay Coloring Pages, and not only did they break down the most popular donut but state, but they also listed out the most popular donuts in the country.

The number 5 most popular type of donut is the apple fritter.

Number 4 is a chocolate glazed donut.

Number 3 is the chocolate frosted donut.

Number 2 is a powdered sugar donut.

And the number 1 most popular type of donut in the US is the glazed donut, of course.

Surprisingly, none of those are Minnesota's favorite donut, though.

Minnesota's Most Popular Type of Donut

Based on Google search trends, our most popular donut in Minnesota is the old-fashioned donut.

I'm a little surprised! I mean, old-fashioned donuts are so good, but the glazed donut is a classic!

Only one other state also had the old-fashioned donut as their favorite, and that was North Dakota.
