Last month we learned that Cedar Fair and Six Flags were merging to create one mega-company that will operate 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks, and 9 resort properties across 17 states, Canada, and Mexico. At that time, we learned the new mega-company would be called Six Flags and wondered if the names of the parks would change.

Good news for Valleyfair fans – they're not changing the name or branding of any Cedar Fair parks, including Valleyfair itself. So, Valleyfair will stay Valleyfair, but we can expect some exciting changes. Read more below.

CNN says the newly merged company will be called Six Flags once the merger is done in the first half of 2024.

In a press release, Selim Bassoul, president and CEO of Six Flags, said, "Six Flags and Cedar Fair share a strong cultural alignment, operating philosophy, and steadfast commitment to providing consumers with thrilling experiences."

Minnesota's Valleyfair: Name Remains, Changes Expected Post Six Flags Merger

Bassaoul added, "By combining our operational models and technology platforms, we expect to accelerate our transformation activities and unlock new potential for our parks."

No official plans have been announced, but the merger is expected to bring several benefits for visitors:

Enhanced Guest Experiences: A Cedar Fair press release explains, "The combined company’s increased cash flow will provide it with greater flexibility to invest in new rides and attractions, broader food and beverage selections, additional in-park offerings, and cross-park initiatives, such as consumer technology and enhanced guest services."

Character Sharing: Right now, Six Flags has the rights to Looney Tunes. But once the merger is done, there will be nothing stopping Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig from making appearances at Valleyfair and other Cedar Fair Parks. Six Flags also has unique attractions like Looney Tunes Movie Town, that might just show up in Cedar Fair parks. Currently, Cedar Fair parks are all about the Peanuts gang, but post-merger, they'll have the freedom to venture out to Six Flags properties.
