Minnesota's Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is doing tons of construction right now, but one of the new additions is super cool. It's going to make traveling more enjoyable and also more inclusive.

MSP is already a great airport, getting acknowledged many times and being named the best airport in the US. But I've never heard of anything quite like this in any other airport.

New Addition to MSP Airport

As part of MSP's big projects, they'll be adding two sensory rooms for travelers.

They've partnered up with Minnesota non-profit Fraser to create these rooms for travelers who either can become overstimulated by everything going on at a busy airport or for someone who just needs a quiet space before continuing their travels.

The sensory rooms will have dimmable lighting, sensory-friendly furnishings, and plenty of different kinds of seating depending on what you need.

When MSP's Sensory Rooms Will Open

They plan to open one of the sensory rooms in Terminal 2, which should open once all of the other construction is done in early 2027, according to the Metropolitan Airports Commission.

The other sensory room will be in Terminal 1 between gates G8 and G18. They plan to have that one open in 2028.

I'm so pleased to hear about all of these inclusive and thoughtful things that MSP is doing. They've actually been partnered up with Fraser, which provides "specialty healthcare and inclusion services for autism, mental health, and disabilities", for 11 years.

MSP has made lots of strides to be more inclusive over the years, including adding more accessible restrooms and adult changing tables. They also have programs to better serve those with visual impairments and those who use American Sign Language.
