The new foods for the Minnesota State Fair were announced last week. But on top of all of the delicious new foods, there are also some new vendors who will be making their state fair debut this summer.

Getting into the state fair as a food vendor is a big deal! There are tons of vendors that try their luck to get in to the Great Minnesota Get-Together.

Sweet Martha's Cookies, a staple of the state fair, is a great example of that. The business was originally Sweet Martha's Yogurt (frozen yogurt, specifically). The owner, Martha Rossini Olson, applied to be a vendor at the state fair in 1978. She got rejected because there was already a frozen yogurt vendor.

The next year she applied again but said they'd sell frozen yogurt AND cookies. They got approved! But only to sell cookies. The problem was they were a month from the state fair and she had applied WITHOUT A COOKIE RECIPE.

Today, Sweet Martha's Cookies is now the top earning vendor at the fair every year.
