This past weekend Stillwater, Minnesota hosted the 2nd annual World Snow Sculpting Championship. I'm not totally sure how Stillwater was selected as the home base for this contest but I'm not complaining! There were teams from all over that traveled to Stillwater for the competition but a team from right here in Minnesota ended up taking home the win.

World Snow Sculpting Championship

When I say there were people from all over who came to compete, I mean it! FOX 9 says there were teams from Germany, Finland, Argentina, Ecuador, and Turkey who came all the way to Stillwater to be a part of the snow sculpting championship.

Now, you might think that the Minnesota team had some home snow advantage. They've practiced with this same kind of snow before, right? But no, snow is made especially for this competition so that way it's fair. Fun fact, they had 12 different types of snow to choose from when building their sculpture!

Winning Snow Sculpture

The winning team calls themselves House of Thune (their last name is Thune). Their snow sculpture was titled 'Journey'. As one of the sculptures, Dusty, told FOX 9, "'It’s kind of a raw and brutal look at how we fall apart when we come to adversity ... And how we pull ourselves back together over and over again.'"

If you'd like to check out their sculpture and the other amazing snow sculptures that were part of the competition they're still on display in Stillwater. They expect, as long as Mother Nature cooperates, they'll be around until about February 6th.
