23 New Travel Advisories Just Issued That Could Affect Minnesota
If you're planning a spring break trip or summer vacation overseas, Minnesotans might want to check these 23 new destinations that have just been included on a new 'reconsider travel' list.
Not that we don't love the Land of 10,000 Lakes, but traveling to another country in a different part of the world is something many of us like to do. And travel numbers have been steadily increasing since the pandemic put a stop to just about all travel five years ago.
A lot of us here in Minnesota and across the country apparently like to spend some time abroad. This Pew Research survey says that 71 percent of Americans have travelled outside the U.S. at least once in their lifetime. Here in the North Star State, that equals out to just over 4,240,000 Minnesotans, according to the latest U.S. Census population estimates.

But now, a new set of travel advisories for 23 countries from the U.S. State Department has just included some very popular tourist destinations for Minnesotans during the spring and summer season that are now listed as being potentially risky.
According to travel site TheStreet, there are some familiar names now included on the 'reconsider travel' list, according to the State Department:
The 23 countries currently under “reconsider travel” include popular vacation destinations such as Egypt, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Colombia.
I'm a little surprised that Jamaica made it on this new 'reconsider travel' list. Statista says that it's one of the most popular places for Americans to visit, with Jamaica having welcomed nearly 1.9 million U.S. tourists in 2022.

Meanwhile, traveling to Egypt is also something many Americans like to do, as Statista notes that the African country welcomed over 676,000 U.S. tourists in 2022, nearly double the amount from 2021.
TheStreet also listed the rest of the countries now included on the 'reconsider travel' list:
- Bangladesh
- Burundi
- Chad
- Ethiopia
- Guatemala
- Guinea-Bissau
- Guyana
- Honduras
- Macau
- Mauritania
- Mozambique
- New Caledonia
- Nicaragua
- Niger
- Nigeria
- Pakistan
- Papua New Guinea
- Uganda
- Vanuatu
This list is certainly something to keep in mind if you're planning any international travel this year. And if you are planning to fly-- even here in Minnesota or across the rest of the U.S.-- keep scrolling to check out the list of items the TSA prohibits you from bringing on board any flight.
