Got some extra room at your place? Minnesota Governor Walz could be calling.

One of the perks of being elected governor here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes is getting to live in the Governor's Mansion in Saint Paul while you're in office. Well, according to the Minnesota Historical Society (MHS), it's officially called the Minnesota Governor's Residence and is also known as the Executive Mansion.

The stately home is located at 1006 Summit Avenue in St. Paul, part of a long stretch of historic homes. It features 20 rooms with a total of 16,000 square feet and was built back in 1910-1912 for Minnesota lumberman and lawyer Horace H. Irvine and his family.

MHS noted his daughters donated the mansion to the state of Minnesota in 1965, the same year the Legislature designated it the official Governor's Residence, and elected governors ever since have lived there while they've been in office.

So why are current Governor Tim Walz and his family looking for a couch to crash on? That's because starting later this summer, the Residence is set to undergo some massive renovations (a building that's 110 years old is gonna need some updating, right?) and they'll need a temporary place to stay. But they'll need something a little more upscale than that couch in your basement, though.

The Real Estate and Construction division of the Minnesota Department of Administration (which operates the residence) says they're specifically looking for a place that will be available for 18 months, starting this June. It must contain 'suitable living quarters' as well as space for 'official ceremonial functions of the state.' Oh. And it has to be pet-friendly too (the Gov. has a dog named Scout and a cat named Afton) as well as have security features.

Ideally, the release says, the home should be located in St. Paul, Minneapolis or a 'surrounding community or suburb.' You can read the entire 17-point list of requirements HERE, just in case you have a property you think might fit the bill.

A couple of properties that might have worked are the Eden Prairie house former Vikings general manager Rick Spielman used to live in when he was with the team-- or maybe the vacation home Gophers football coach PJ Fleck sold last fall. Keep scrolling to check them out!
