If you're one of the many Minnesotans planning on flying out of MSP this holiday season, you'll get to witness firsthand the results of the largest renovation of Terminal 1 in the airport's history.

The good news just keeps on coming for Minnesota fliers who use our state's biggest airport. You might recall that in September, the 2025 Airport Satisfaction Survey from noted consumer research firm J.D. Power once again confirmed that the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) near Bloomington is the Top Airport in the U.S. for Customer Satisfaction.

That latest ranking, which is based on thousands of surveys from U.S. and Canadian travelers, ranked MSP first in the Mega Airport category for the second year in a row. MSP also topped the J.D. Power survey back in 2022.

And this news is likely part of the reason MSP keeps winning so many awards-- it just unveiled the largest renovation of Terminal 1 in the airport's history! According to the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), which operates MSP, the project was a joint venture with Delta Air Lines:

The MAC and Delta collaborated on the Airport Modernization Program, a $242 million construction project managed by Delta to create a unified and modern design across six of the terminal’s seven concourses and approximately 75 Delta gate hold rooms.

The project started over two years ago, in the fall of 2023, and featured some major renovations that you'll definitely notice the next time you're flying out of MSP from Terminal 1.

A release from the MAC noted that Minnesotans will now enjoy new terrazzo or carpet flooring, wall finishes, LED lighting, and more. Plus, the release said, Delta gate areas also underwent a full refresh, including new seating, carpeting, counters, and signage.

And, one of the most noticeable improvements, the release said, is new 'dynamic gate signs along the concourse walkways, which allow passengers to see flight and destination information more quickly and from farther down the concourse,' the release noted.

This latest accomplishment isn't the first time Minnesota's MSP has been singled out as being tops in the nation. Last year, MSP was again named the best not just in the U.S., but on the entire North American continent according to the ASQ Awards and Recognition survey. And, MSP was also named the number one U.S. airport in the 2024 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards.

Plus, earlier this year, MSP was singled out as the best airport in the country when it comes to flight disruptions. Or specifically, when it comes to minimizing those flight disruptions. And in September, Delta Air Lines, the biggest carrier at MSP, was named the best on-time airline in the U.S. this summer.

MSP is the 19th busiest airport in North America and served nearly 35 million passengers in 2023, up over 10 percent from 2022. It's the second-largest hub for Delta Air Lines, as well as the hometown base for Sun Country Airlines. That's a lot of passengers making their way to our fair state, right?
