It’s the end of an era for one beloved Minnesota eatery that’s been serving up memories as much as meals. After decades of welcoming loyal diners, the classic restaurant has announced it will close its doors for good when the year comes to a close.

More Beloved Minnesota Restaurants Have Recently Closed Their Doors

It seems like you almost need a scorecard to keep up with the number of restaurants that have either recently closed or have said they're closing permanently here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

It was back in February that the Dark Horse Bar & Eatery in St. Paul announced it was closing for good on Valentine's Day. Thankfully, it's now open again with new owners. Before that, diners in Woodbury and Lake Elmo were shocked when The Machine Shed, the longtime restaurant that had been open for over 20 years just off I-94, posted a sign on its doors saying it was now closed.

Annie’s Parlour and Gina Maria’s Pizza Among Recent Minnesota Closures

Back in July, the classic restaurant, Annie's Parlour, located in the Minneapolis Dinkytown neighborhood near the University of Minnesota, also shut its doors for good after having been in business since 1974!

And it was just a few weeks ago that we got the surprise word that Gina Maria's Pizza has apparently closed all four of its Minnesota locations as well. That popular pizza restaurant, which was founded in 1975, had locations in Chanhassen, Eden Prairie, Edina, and Plymouth, and abruptly closed all of them in mid-October.

That was after we received the sad news last summer that Big River Pizza, the long-time popular restaurant famous for wood-fired pizzas in St. Paul, was also closing up shop and cooking its last pie.

Salut Bar Americain in Edina Will Close Permanently at Year’s End

And now comes word that the popular French restaurant, Salut Bar Americain, on France Avenue South in Edina, will be shutting its doors for good at the end of the year.

According to a post on the Salut Facebook page, after being a local favorite for two decades, the restaurant announced that its last day in business will be Wednesday, December 31st, 2025. It also noted that any Salut gift cards can be redeemed there, or at any other restaurant owned by its parent company, Parasole.

Salut's main website noted the restaurant was designed to appeal to everyone: 'Everybody needs a neighborhood French joint, and Salut is just that: casual, comfortable, with a menu broad enough for Americans yet refined enough for zee French,' it said.

The location now suffers the same fate as Salut's previous location on Grand Avenue in St. Paul, which closed permanently in 2024. It's a sad fact that sometimes, some of our famous restaurants, stores, and businesses throw in the towel and close for good. Keep scrolling to check out some once-popular brands that are now also permanently closed.
