The results are in, and there's a new 'Most Reliable Car' in Minnesota this year.

Seeing as the price of automobiles has increased over 10 percent here in 2022 compared to 2021, when we plunk down our hard-earned money on a new vehicle, most of us here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes want to get the most bang for our buck, right?

Reliability has a BIG factor when I've been considering just which brand of vehicle to buy. Nobody wants to have a vehicle that constantly breaks down, which can leave you stranded. Of course, then there's also the increasing cost of having to have your vehicle constantly repaired too.

So when Consumer Reports,  a nonprofit research and consumer advocacy organization, publishes its list of the Most Reliable New Cars each year, I always take note. And the 2022 Consumer Reports was just released, and it shows there's a new Most Reliable Car here in Minnesota and across the country this year.

Here's how Consumer Reports compiled its survey:

We gathered data on over 300,000 vehicles that address 17 trouble areas, including engine, transmission, in-car electronics, and more. We use that information to give reliability ratings for every major mainstream model.

And the automaker with the Most Reliable New Car for 2022 is... Toyota.

Toyota was ranked second last year but moved up to take the top spot this year. Lexus, which was first last year, came in second this year, followed by BMW (which jumped up 10 spots) in third. Mazda placed fourth in this year's survey, down two places from last year, while Honda rounded out the top five most reliable car brands in this year's survey. (Honda was also ranked fifth last year.)
