In Minnesota, we tend to give a pretty generic answer when people ask us, "How's it going?" About 95% of the time we just automatically respond with, "Good, how about you?" If we answered honestly though, we might realize that those around us need support and some might be struggling in ways that you can't even imagine to be true.

Two Minnesota Women Openly Share About Their Struggle With Alcohol and Drugs

I've spoken in groups of women and challenged them to do one thing - speak their truth. If they are having a great day, that's awesome!  But if they are struggling in any way, be honest about it because you never know who you could be impacting in a positive way.

I am so proud of two women that are doing just that - speaking their truth.  They have both had moments where not only was "good" not even close to being their reality, but they are sharing their stories so other women who are struggling know that they aren't alone.

Meet Peyton:

I would drink until I passed out.

I’d wake up and drink to get the shakes away, and just to function.

I thought that was how life was supposed to be.

And there was one time where I got really, really drunk. I was on the bridge and I was getting ready to jump, and I don't know where this officer came from, but he came out of nowhere got me off the ledge, and that was it, I said, “I'm going to Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge.”

After the first day I knew that this wasn't just any other place. This was a place of love. This was a place of healing.

And my relationship with God has just gotten so strong where I don't ever want to go back to a where I was.

I want to have a clear mind so I can have a clear relationship with Him.

Meet Becky:

I ended up in a marriage where we used drugs together, but living in a gated community, we could pretty much fool everybody and act like there was nothing bad going on in our household.

I was afraid to leave. I was afraid to tell anybody about what was happening, and I was just lost. I was just terrified, and I continued to do the only thing that I knew how to do and that was use.

I would never have been able to make it without Teen Challenge.

This is the one thing that has changed my life around.

I know that God can heal and protect and unconditionally love.

It's freeing, it's exhilarating, and I just would never go back.
