Jim Carrey  was next door and spoke at a college over the weekend.  He told the students in Iowa not to be afraid to go after what they really want.  He spoke at Maharishi University in Fairfield, Iowa. Watch his speech here...[Video]

I love listening to commencement speeches.  There are usually some very nicely polished gems that come out of them.

I have always known that if you love what you do it is not work.  I've desired for that in my life so yes, I agree with his general premise of going after what you really want.  I could never see myself working anywhere that wasn't a passion.  Yes I've had jobs like that, and I've had to do things in life that were simply that, but, everyone should do what they really want I feel, because, life is so short!

I remember when I was younger that members of my family thought it was crazy that I loved music as much as I did.  I was given a keyboard/synthesizer for Christmas one year and one of my uncles said to me, "What are you going to do with that?" in a sarcastic tone. I shook my head and thought to myself, really?  It's not like I did not have passion for music.  I've carried that discouragement in my life, but used it. I am not a professional piano player, no, but, those years of loving and learning music I use every single day of my life.  I know that if a child or a graduate were to come up to me and say, "I want to play the guitar!"  I'd tell them, "Go for it!"  I believe that we can tell when we are young what drives us and what we love.  I believe just about any desire like that can be worked into a pretty fantastic career somehow.  I did it, and I strongly would advise anyone else to do it.  Right on Jim Carrey!
