
Severe Storms Produce Tornado Near Kenyon, Large Hail in Rochester Area

Kenyon, MN (KROC-AM News)- A line of severe thunderstorms brought a tornado, hail and strong winds to southern Minnesota Monday.

That’s according to a preliminary storm recap released by the National Weather Service (NWS).
The agency issued multiple tornado watches, warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings as the powerful storm system swept across the southern part of the state Monday evening.

Tornado and Damaging Winds Reported in Kenyon, 1-Inch Hail Reported in Rochester Area
The tornado that struck southeast Minnesota was reported in the Kenyon area.
The storm report says a video briefly captured the twister around 5:55 p.m. The apparent twister caused structural damage to a farm and blew debris about a mile from the site it was spotted.
About five minutes later, strong winds damaged the roof of a large commercial warehouse in Kenyon, the report says. A peak wind gust measurement in the Kenyon area is not available.
The report indicates that large hail appeared to be the main hazard by the time the storm reached the Rochester area.
The largest hail reported in Rochester was 0.75 inches, while inch-sized hail was reported in Predomore, Eyota, Kasson and Mazeppa.
Outside of southeast Minnesota, the NWS took the report of funnel clouds spotted near St. Cloud and in Kiester, which is southwest of Albert Lea.
Despite the property damage, officials say no injuries were reported.
