Legionnaires Outbreak Continues to Grow
Hopkins, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Department of Health has confirmed some more cases of Legionnaires Disease connected to an outbreak in Hopkins.
The three cases confirmed Friday raised the total number of cases since the start of the outbreak to 23.
Officials suspect that contaminated air droplets from a cooling tower on a building in Hopkins is the source of the infection, but it may take weeks to receive the results of tests conducted on cooling towers in an area of Hopkins that appears connected to the outbreak. In the meantime, the owners of the properties have taken action to disinfect the facilities in an effort to end the outbreak.
Officials say the most recent case connected to the Hopkins outbreak involves a person who began exhibiting symptoms on September 22nd.
