Man Falls Into Sewer Manhole

Rochester police officers and firefighters were involved in a bizarre rescue operation Saturday. A patrol officer spotted a man lifting a manhole cover on Civic Center Drive near the Civic Theater around 4 p.m. When the officer told the man to put the cover back in place, he apparently lost his balance and fell into the 10 foot hole.

Police say the man was standing in raw sewage when firefighters began getting him out

He was later taken to St. Mary’s for medical and mental exams.
