Man Killed By Truck After Causing Head-On Crash In Burnsville

Burnsville, MN (KROC AM News) - A major Minnesota freeway was shut down in both directions early Saturday after a person who had caused a crash ended up being struck by a truck and two other vehicles.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the deadly incident began around 2:45 am on I-35 in Burnsville when the driver of a car began driving south in the northbound lanes of the freeway.

The vehicle collided head-on with another car and rolled into the ditch. The driver was able to get out of the car and began running from the scene but was struck by a semi-truck in the southbound lanes of the freeway. He was then hit by two other vehicles. The State Patrol says he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man has been identified as 20-year-old Austin Grosam of Mankato. The driver of the car he collided with has been identified as 27-year-old Hossam Hassan Elsa Elsayed of Burnsville. His injuries were described as life-threatening.

The driver of the semi-truck has been identified as 60-year-old Timothy Dupont of Blaine. The other drivers were identified as 45-year-old Navindra Persaud of Apple Valley and 37-year-old Omot Okumu of Farmington.

As of 6:30 am Saturday, MnDOT was reporting the northbound lane of the interstate was still closed in the area of the incident.
