Man Sentenced for Conviction Stemming from Shooting Investigation

Rochester MN (KROC AM News) - A 35-year-old Rochester man has been sentenced to six-months in jail and 10 years on probation for a felony drug conviction stemming from a criminal case connected to a shooting in downtown Rochester last May.

Calvin Dixon was given credit for the 131 days he has already spent in jail, but was also given a stayed 24 month prison sentence that could be imposed if he gets into trouble while on probation. He was originally charged with two terroristic threats charges, but those counts were dismissed as part of a plea agreement last September.

Dixon was arrested after police were called to the Center Street Hotel near the Mayo Civic Center the night of May 15th after a man who had been shot in the leg was brought to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment. Bullet holes were later found in two rooms at the hotel and in a window in the First Street Parking Ramp. Over a dozen spent shell casings were recovered at the scene, but police did not recover any guns.

Investigators indicated they believed the gunfire stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the victim and Dixon over a girlfriend.
