Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is currently accepting public comments concerning the Mayo Clinic’s plans to boost the capacity of its power plant at St. Marys Hospital.

Mayo has filed for a modification of its air permit to allow for some additional emissions due to increasing the output of one of the existing diesel generators and adding a new 3.5-megawatt emergency generator to meet the hospital's power needs. A notice on the MPCA website indicates the agency’s commissioner has made a preliminary determination to approve the permit modification. The posting also includes detailed information on the project’s impact on particulate, nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide and other emissions from the powerplant.

The public comment period opened on November 27th and will close the afternoon of December 26th.
