Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) For a person experiencing a medical emergency during a commercial airline flight, it would at least be heartening to know your flight was being diverted to the home of the world famous Mayo Clinic.

Deputy Fire Chief Steve Belau says the Rochester Fire Department, along with Gold Cross Ambulance, were dispatched to the Rochester Airport Friday evening because a passenger on a Delta Airlines flight had developed symptoms consistent with a medical emergency. The flight was headed from Las Vegas to Detroit and Rochester was the closest major airport in the flight path when the person became ill.

The plane landed around 7:20 p.m. and the stricken passenger was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital by ambulance. Information about the patient and the person’s medical condition have not been released.

After refueling, the Delta Airlines Airbus A320 took off from Rochester about an hour later and resumed the flight to Detroit.
