Happy St. Patrick’s Day! The green beer will be flowing all day as people consume lots of corned beef and enjoy the sounds of bagpipers. The Rochester Caledonia Bagpipe Band had to shut down their annual pub crawl because of the pandemic, but they’re back this year. They will be playing all around town today – see the spots they will visit at the bottom of this article.

Other communities around the state have special events planned to mark the day too. St. Paul and Minneapolis both have huge parades planned with parties complete with music, food, and drinks, at the end of the route. Speaking of parades, the world’s shortest parade happens today and it’s right here in Minnesota.

Minnesota is Home to the World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade

The thought of sitting on the side of a road for hours to watch vehicles drive by does nothing for me. I’m not much of a parade guy, but I do love people watching, especially on a day like this when people are going to be a little silly.

Bemidji gets it – Their St Patrick’s Day event sounds perfect.

Bemidji hosts the world’s shortest St. Patrick’s Day! It’s basically a parade from one bar to another with a costume contest in the middle.

Their Facebook event page describes the event, “Celebrate St Patrick’s Day Downtown Bemidji at the World’s Shortest Parade! Parade route – all 78 paces- starts at Brigid's Pub and ends at Keg N' Cork, 1st Irish Pub on the Mississippi. Everyone (and their pets) is invited to dress in their favorite parade regalia and join the parade!”
