Caledonia, MN (KROC AM News) - The top law enforcement official in Minnesota’s Houston County is wondering why he wasn’t informed of an alleged incident involving a COVID-19 survey team.

The Minnesota Dept. of Health announced Friday it had ended a study that was recently launched “to understand the effect COVID-19 is having on Minnesota communities.”

The department says it has received numerous reports involving members of the teams who “were greeted by racial and ethnic slurs as they went door-to-door.”

The alleged incident in Houston County was more intense as a survey team reported it was “boxed in by two cars and threatened by three men, including one with a gun.”The alleged incident happened in the small town of Eitzen.

Houston County Sheriff Mark Inglett was apparently never informed and in a news release, indicated he found out through news reports. Inglett says his office “cannot confirm or deny the allegations.”

He adds:

“Unfortunately, we have little additional information at this point other than what has been reported by the news media apparently through MDH. We have requested additional information from MDH but have not yet received the requested information. While we have spoken with MDH personnel, the alleged victims have not contacted our office and at this point we are aware of their identities and have not spoken with them directly. Obviously the allegations are concerning and wish the surveyors would have immediately reported the incident to law enforcement.”
